Guild Wars – Getting to 30 points in Hall of Monuments!

So, the epic battle is on to try and reach the holy grail of 30 points in the Guild Wars 2 Hall of Monuments but where to start? I’m currently at 22 points, and there is a long way to go yet to reach the fabled 30 mark and get all the good stuff.

So far my ‘to do’ list is looking like this,

This looks very simple, but there is still plenty to do! Firstly will be completing the cartographer’s! I’ve got about 98% of Elona so far so netting that last few % will get me two titles, and one precious point!

The other stuff is much harder, which entails gathering LOTS of expensive crafting materials, but this is balanced as the reward for two sets of armour is a whopping four points! How about that, although the materials are hard to come by,

  • 100 Platinum
  • 600 Bolt(s) of Cloth
  • 40 Bolt(s) of Linen
  • 80 Amber Chunk(s)
  • 32 Elonian Leather Square(s)
  • 16 Ruby(s)
  • 16 Sapphire(s)

Everything is fine except for Amber chunks, which are okay ish, it’s the Rubys and Sapphires which are the killer. As everyone is now after the Vabbian armour set, the prices of these have sky rocketed! Meaning you are looking at a few platinum per item. So perhaps the Vabbian armour is out of reach? We’ll see about that!

Lastly that Phoenix. Now this is straight forward, you just kill Shiro. Sounds simple right? Well yeah with people it is. With noone in my guild bar one or two people playing the game now, nearly 6 years later at the time of writing this, it’s even harder. All hail the Guild Wars Live team! for the full hero team update! Finally I might be able to build a specific team build to take down Shiro and earn my Phoenix and net those two elusive points.

So there we have it, this is my to do list detailed here more for my own benefit than anyone elses, but by breaking down the tasks into smaller chunks it makes the points all stack up. With these few items complete, I actually end on 31 points! Not bad ;)

Beardyman Essential Mix

Beardyman is a UK beatboxer and eclectic music maker. Having stormed the UK hip-hop beatbox scene he’s now doing awesome stuff just like this. I can strongly recommend listening to the whole mix, it’s brilliant.

A nice hike in the snow!

The UK has been seeing some big dumps of snow so far this December. Thankfully it was overnight Fri/Sat this time so I could get out and take some really nice snaps in the snow. Managed to get 99 good ones out of a run of 231 so pretty good going I think. A quick whizz through lightroom and they are ready to go.

Final tattoo sketches

So I’ve been playing with the ideas and finalising things with the ever excited and amazing @kittybrown. We’re down to the last few ideas I think. I’m getting to the point where every time I try and sketch out a new idea, I return to the same concept. So I think it might be time to bite the bullet and hand over to a seasoned professional!

Tattoo scamp concepts

Having had a mess about in Photoshop, here are the ideas. I’m thinking I really need a designer involved to help me with the composition.

Tattoo design concepts

I’ve had the idea of wanting a tattoo somewhere for a long time, since about 18 I guess, when the world is your oyster and you think you are a the coolest dude alive. Although now I’m reaching an older age *cough* I’m glad I didn’t get something on my body I can’t get rid of. It has turned my mind to a treat for myself though, and I think if I can put in lots of time and research then I’d be happy to get something that would last and mean something.

The idea behind the tattoo is a representation of peace and calm, which is what I get when I am watching my fish. I’ve kept ornamental goldfish since I was about 10 and am a big fan of the ornamental breeds with the flowing tails. This also plays into the fact that I am a big fan of china and Chinese culture, from learning Mandarin, doing Tai Chi and watching lots of martial arts films, new and old all in mandarin, after all, subtitles never hurt anyone! My god family are all from China also so I feel a connection to the place through my family. I felt that bringing together these elements using a blend of iconic imagery from ancient china would make a good symbol of my interests passions and connection.

I really don’t have any solid ideas on what I’m after just yet, which is why I’ve been just gathering lots and lots of images of things that I like in order to faff in photoshop for a month or two putting ideas together. I’ve not been overly familiar with places to look for traditional Chinese tattoos as there really aren’t any. Most people in china get pictures, and English words.

Having gathered a number of images now, I’m keen to research them and see the history of the imagery. I need to know what they represent, their history and what it means to put them together. These parts I’m hoping to get from my Tai Chi teacher, as she is Chinese. I’m going to run the characters past her first so that I can nail down the actual idea. Then when I have a few ideas roughly scamped up either on paper or knocked together in photoshop, I’ll run the design past her to make sure that it’s okay in Chinese culture. As white is the color or death, whereas yellow is fortune and considered a royal color, so perhaps I’d have the fish yellow for example, but that might be considered bad as you shouldn’t imitate the royal color. Little things like that.

I’ve compiled some mood boards which I’m using to create some basic sketches of the design. (Some of these are pretty big images!)

So from these, I am hoping to create or have created an illustration of the design and then it’ll be finding a nice studio and skilled artist to apply it and give further input. I’m happy to let anyone have a go, so if you think you can come up with something amazing using and or inspired by the mood boards please do give me a shout on twitter or via email. Any input on the elements, history, culture and other aspects would be greatly received via twitter, comments or email.

I’ve got a few basic sketches that I’ve been working through,

So that’s where it’s at! Hoping to have some more ideas tonight and pull things together in photoshop, to get a better quality scamp together :) Hopefully @kittybrown can help me out! :)

My new Mets Cap!

Finally, having bought two 49 fifty caps and wondered why they didn’t fit properly, I finally managed to get onto the New Era Cap Company website, as that’s what they’re called now apparently, and figure out it’s the 39 thirty style I like!

Here it is, in all it’s glory. Awesome.

3 Sir! Right! 5!

Some days, you just go a little strange. This was a work email written to my colleague Mark, not 5 minutes ago.

Greeting and salutations to you Mark of clan Murphy.

I bid you warm tidings on this the twenty seventh of our lords month of June.

As it was written long ago by a man that much wiser than myself.

“Thou shalt resize”

.. and thus there was resizing. Many wise men tried this technique of resizing, and they surmised after great trepidation that the mathematical format of the square should be the chosen size. For it was pleasing to the lord. Thus the resizing of the image was into a square, and lo, it shall be-eth uploaded unto the website, where in his grace, it shall be cropped.

Having counted to 5 3 it shall then be displayeth amongst all the wonder of the website.

Here endeth the lesson.

All power to the engines.

Go in peace, Mark of clan Murphy.
