Todays Play

Since City of * starting having some lag issues with their packet carriers in Europe somewhere, I went back to playing some OpenTTD. This game has such massive replay value it’s hard not to just install it when bored. I have started using the replacement GRF files too in order to change the game and give it another new lease of life. You can find a list of GRF files on the OpenTTD wiki, over here, http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/GRF_List

The other decent title out at the moment, similar in play style to Fable by Lionhead Studios, is Overlord. This is a superb game where you play an evil Overlord with a horde of minions with which you wreak havoc among the populace. Fire, brimstone, even your own evil tower! Great game.

New theme

I have been working on a new theme for the site. It probably doesn’t need one, but change can be good, so perhaps it’s time for a new theme.

I decided to modify an existing theme instead of making my own ;) I have modified the Dark Black Theme, which you can find here, http://onemorerevision.com/dark_black_release. Slight inspiration from a banner you might recognise ;)

Todays bandwagon

SaveNetRadio.org

Having left my ipod at home today, I returned to listening to Sky.fm to find that Internet Radio is going to DIE! OMGZNO etc, que over the top reactions and such. Anyhow the plan is that US congress is going to raise the royalties for internet radio stations. The stations claim that this will push them out of business. On the flip side, they are indeed in business so perhaps they need to change their business model. Also the thought occurs that if this change is made in the USA, will running your radio servers in another country make a difference? Anyhow you can find the site by clicking on the banner.

Playstation Portable

I got one! Mesarim managed to persuade me that getting a cheap second hand unit from Gamestation for £99 with a game was well worth it. I started on my age old diatribe about how they would be good if they were open and you could actually use them for what they were intended. He informed me that thanks to some dark magic jiggery pokery there is Open Edition firmware to unlock the unit and allow you to use it as it was probably intended by those who designed it before the Sony corporate suits got hold of it. I also nabbed a matt black faceplate from DecalGirl and now have a fully featured and functional PSP :)

Running 3.40-OE firmware, I am currently playing Final Fantasy 7 (psx version), Zelda: Link to the past (snes) and Wipeout Pure (psp) all from one memory card! I have to say, this coupled with the built in WPA enabled WiFi and internet browser make the PSP a great unit to own! It’s quite shocking the amount of potential that this machine has and that Sony have locked away from all their local fans. Shame on you Sony.. again.

This is apparently the decryption key for HD DVD. It’s making quite a splash at the moment, with “the entire internet” spamming it all over the place. It appears to have originated over at digg.com where articles pertaining to the key were removed, they have since been reinstated and hit all time highs. Check it out over at www.digg.com.

It appears to be another Internet vs Corporations debacle. With the whole freedom of speech thing being mentioned in many places. Some more stuff over at :

This is one mighty scary article, well worth a read.

Nation States

Jennifer Government

Ever wanted to run your own country? Now you can! Nation States is a game I used to play many years ago, where you can found your own nation and set-up various principles of the society and government, and then deal with policy issues which will shape the face of your nation over time. It seems I left my old nation unattended for long enough for it to be deleted. So I have founded a new nation.

New pc!

Installed

Originally uploaded by Neon1024.

New year and springtime bring upgrades and preparations for Crysis, Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3 and Hellgate London. As an aside, after a fantastic presentation by the CEO of the Hellgate London development team Flagship Studios, Bill Roper, I am utterly enthused about Hellgate London and would happily bill it as the closest you will get to Diablo3, and well well worth keeping an eye on. I have a pre-order myself, but I digress.

I have uploaded some photos of the new pc to my Flickr account for people to look at. Not much at the moment, but I will update them as I get more used to fiddling with GIMP on my Ubuntu machine.

One tip I would give people if you are looking to update your pc to the new architecture, such as SLi, please do make sure you buy the right motherboard! I managed to buy an ATI Crossfire motherboard, which of course did not support nVidia’s SLi technology. No big deal as nVidia haven’t yet released any SLi drivers, so you can only really use one graphics card at the moment. I have to admit the performance of just the one card is superb. Running Command and Conquer 3 on maximum settings with 8x Anti-Aliasing is pretty impressive.
